Britney Spears marked her sons’ birthdays over the weekend with a lengthy, now-deleted social media post that also touched on her strained relationship with her father, Jamie Spears, and her years under conservatorship.
The 44-year-old pop star reflected on travel restrictions she says were enforced by her parents during that period, questioning at one point why her father had lost the use of his legs.
“But you all know me I’ve forgiven and been the bigger person always RIGHT. I wonder why god took my father’s legs away?” wrote Spears, who previously slammed her father for forcing her to perform during her conservatorship.
Jamie reportedly had one leg amputated above the knee due to a serious bacterial infection.
In her past vocal frustrations with her father, she’s made claims that she was forced to continue performing during her conservatorship.
In the post, she also expressed lingering anger over feeling restricted from making her own choices for 15 years, including decisions about travel and her personal freedom.
“Did he take my name away and existence in MURICA HOME OF THE FREE!!” the princess of pop continued.
Since her conservatorship ended in 2021, Spears has traveled frequently, often visiting Cabo San Lucas and other coastal destinations to celebrate holidays and birthdays with her family.
The post was shared alongside a photo of Spears at a beach vacation spot with her sons, Sean Preston, who turned 21 on Monday, and Jayden James, who turned 20 over the weekend.
While Spears has experienced periods of distance from her sons in the past, the family appears to be working on rebuilding their relationship in recent years.
