Australia and South Africa clash in WTC final at Lord’s today

LONDON: The highly anticipated final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) begins on Wednesday at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in England, where defending champions Australia will take on South Africa.

Often referred to as the “Home of Cricket,” Lord’s will host the most important contest in the Test arena, marking the culmination of a two-year-long battle between top Test-playing nations.

Australia, who defeated India in the previous edition’s final at The Oval, are aiming to make history by winning back-to-back WTC titles. A victory today would cement their dominance in the longest format and add another chapter to their illustrious cricketing legacy.

South Africa, on the other hand, are eyeing their first WTC title and will be looking to upset the defending champions on the grandest stage in red-ball cricket.

On the other side, the South African team is still searching for an ICC event title, despite more than two decades having passed since their last one.

South Africa, who finished at the top of the table, played 12 matches over the two-year period, winning 8, losing 3, and drawing one. Australia, meanwhile, played 19 matches, securing 13 victories, 4 losses, and 2 draws, finishing second on the table.

Ahead of the high-stakes World Test Championship Final, both Australia and South Africa have officially announced their playing XIs for the historic encounter at Lord’s.
