Ariana Grande gets emotional as ‘Eternal Sunshine’ tour ends and says goodbye to touring

Ariana Grande delivered an emotional farewell to fans in London on Tuesday night as she brought her ETERNAL SUNSHINE tour to an end, closing a major chapter in her return to live performance.

The singer performed the final show of her 10 night residency at The O2 Arena, where she was occasionally visibly moved during the concert. One of the most emotional moments came during “One Last Time”, a song that has taken on particular significance for fans following the 2017 Manchester terror attack.

Grande addressed the London crowd before performing the song, asking the audience to help her through the moment. The performance became one of the defining points of a farewell concert that marked the end of her first major tour in seven years.

The singer also performed despite an injury to her foot. Grande had previously told fans that she had suffered a deep cut and would continue with her final performances while recovering. Instead of wearing her familiar high heeled shoes throughout the concert, she performed in knee high platform boots.

The injury did not prevent Grande from maintaining the demanding choreography associated with the show. She moved across the stage with her dancers and continued performing the vocal heavy set despite the physical challenge.

Her voice briefly faltered during “Nowhere, Nobody”, but she quickly recovered and continued with the performance. The concert ultimately ended with Grande being lifted into the rafters in a harness, completing the same theatrical finale that has featured throughout the tour.

Near the end of the show, Grande thanked her audience for supporting her throughout the tour. She described the experience as one of the most beautiful and extraordinary experiences of her life and said she would always cherish it.

The farewell comes as Grande prepares to step back from public facing appearances. Last month, her publicist announced that the singer was taking a break from visibility following what was described as ongoing public scrutiny. The decision followed intense online discussion surrounding her appearance and health.

Grande has rejected the idea that the decision was prompted by negativity from her fans. She previously told audiences that the break had been planned for a long time and came from a thoughtful and empowered place. She also stressed that people need boundaries and breaks.

Her decision will affect her acting commitments as well as music. Grande had been scheduled to appear alongside her Wicked co star Jonathan Bailey in a production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George at London’s Barbican next summer. Both performers have since withdrawn from the production.

The ETERNAL SUNSHINE tour represented Grande’s return to the stage after a seven year absence. The tour began in the United States in June and eventually brought her to London for the 10 show residency.

For the singer, Tuesday’s London finale therefore carried significance beyond the end of a concert run. It marked the conclusion of her first tour in years while beginning a period in which she intends to protect her privacy and devote greater attention to her personal boundaries and acting career.
