Anna Faris is opening up about her decision to stop drinking alcohol, saying she noticed a personal connection between drinking and feelings of depression.

Faris, 49, recently sat with Chelsea Handler to record an episode of the Dear Chelsea podcast, where she recalled starting to notice changes in how people responded to her over the past year.

“It was only in the last, like, year, I think, that I really started to notice and appreciate if and when people recognise me, they would usually smile,” the Spa Weekend star, 49, shared during the Thursday episode.

When Handler asked if quitting alcohol played a role in that shift, Faris agreed, saying, “There’s a correlation between drinking and depression, for me, for sure. I had to take a step back and not self-sabotage.”

Handler shared that she related to this experience, explaining that the effects of alcohol can shift as people get older, and that it’s important to stay attuned to how your body responds over time.

“I think that that happens to so many people,” Handler said. “Things change also, like drinking changes as you get older. It’s not the same, it doesn’t have the same effect [or] impact. I mean, all things change as you get older. So you have to really be, like, kind of in touch with your person, like I don’t drink the way I used to drink. I drink, but I just don’t even have the same desire.”

Faris also credited hormone treatment for helping improve her overall wellbeing.
