
Sindh Police have launched a province-wide crackdown against the illegal use of government registration number plates on private vehicles after Inspector General (IG) Sindh ordered strict enforcement across the province.
According to an official directive, using government license plates on privately owned vehicles has been declared illegal.
Police said government registration plates are intended only for officially assigned government vehicles and cannot be used on private vehicles under any circumstances.
The directive said some government officers have been displaying official registration plates on their personal vehicles, describing the practice as a misuse of official privileges.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon directed all police units to ensure that government registration plates are used only on vehicles officially assigned by the government.
The order also makes it clear that no person, regardless of rank or position, is allowed to install or use government registration plates on private vehicles.
Police across Sindh have been instructed to launch a special campaign to identify vehicles illegally displaying government registration plates.
Authorities have been directed to take action without discrimination, regardless of the owner’s official rank or position.
According to the directive, police officers have been authorized to seize government registration plates that are being used illegally on private vehicles.
They may also take the vehicles into custody if necessary and register criminal cases where permitted under the law.
Officers also have been warned against negligence and instructed to strictly enforce the directive across the province.
The IGP has directed supervisory officers to personally monitor the implementation of the campaiSindh Police initiates crackdown on illegal number platesgn and ensure full compliance with the orders.
The directive also warns that any officer found giving preferential treatment to violators or failing to enforce the orders could face departmental action.
Police officials have been instructed to implement the directive with immediate effect across Sindh.
