Dar, Wang Yi discuss regional peace and stability in New York

NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York, where the two leaders discussed regional peace and stability.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the recent regional situation and Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy.

Wang Yi praised Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting peace and reaffirmed China’s full support for Islamabad’s efforts.

The meeting also included discussion on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation’s recent visit to China.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the completion of 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Ishaq Dar is currently in New York at the invitation of the Chinese foreign minister and attended the United Nations Security Council open debate.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the meeting titled “Promoting International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening Multilateralism” was held on May 26 under China’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will depart for an official visit to Washington, D.C. on Friday, the Foreign Office spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, Dar will travel to Washington after attending meetings of the United Nations Security Council in New York.

During the visit, Ishaq Dar is scheduled to meet US Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Marco Rubio.

The two sides are expected to discuss Pakistan-US bilateral relations, as well as regional and global developments.

The Foreign Office said discussions would also focus on enhancing cooperation in key priority sectors and Pakistan’s diplomatic and negotiation efforts for regional peace and stability.

According to the spokesperson, the Washington visit reflects the commitment of both countries to further strengthen their longstanding relationship.

Ishaq Dar is expected to return to Islamabad the same day after completing his official engagements.
