Zahir Jaffar files review petition in SC against Noor Mukadam case verdict

Islamabad: In the Supreme Court, Zahir Jaffar, the convicted murderer of Noor Mukadam, has filed a review petition against the death sentence.

The petition states that the court did not assess the mental state of the accused, despite having requested the formation of a medical board to evaluate his mental health.

According to the petition, the court did not issue any verdict on this miscellaneous application and based the death sentence on video recordings. However, these videos were neither proven to be authentic during the trial nor provided to the accused.

The petitioner argues that the videos were never played in court and that the decision was made in haste. Therefore, he requests the court to review the decision announced on May 20, citing substantial reasons.

It is noted that Noor Mukadam was brutally murdered in Sector F-6, Islamabad, in 2021.

The Islamabad court sentenced Zahir Jaffar to death, and this verdict was upheld by the Islamabad High Court and subsequently by the Supreme Court.
