YouTube’s first video becomes part of a museum

Many people may already know that the platform’s very first video was recorded 20 years ago by YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim. In the 19-second clip, he is seen at the San Diego Zoo talking about elephants. The video was uploaded on April 23, 2005.

Since then, the short clip has been viewed more than 320 million times and has received over 18 million likes.

Now, the historic video has officially become part of a museum collection. It is being displayed in an exhibition at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A).

A museum spokesperson said that they acquired an early YouTube webpage along with the platform’s first-ever video. According to the spokesperson, the team had been working for the past 18 months to recreate the original watch page design of the video.

The museum partnered with the YouTube team and a design studio for the project. The video is now placed in a special section of the museum, where visitors can watch it on a mini display.
