Yemen’s Prime Minister Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Sanaa
Yemen’s Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser Al-Rahawi and several ministers were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the capital city Sanaa, according to international news agencies and confirmation from Yemen’s president.
The Houthis announced that Al-Rahawi and many cabinet members were targeted on Thursday while attending a routine government workshop reviewing their administration’s performance over the past year. Ahmed Al-Rahawi had been serving as prime minister in Houthi-controlled areas since August 2024.
In a statement from the Yemeni president’s office, it was declared that “Prime Minister Ahmed Ghalib Al-Rahawi and his fellow ministers of the Government of Change and Reconstruction were martyred on Thursday.”
The Israeli military confirmed carrying out an airstrike in Sanaa, stating it targeted Houthi forces. This comes as the war in Gaza has increasingly spilled over into the wider region. In response to Israeli strikes, the Houthis have repeatedly launched rocket attacks on Israel and targeted Western vessels in the Red Sea.
