WhatsApp introduces new privacy feature for users

According to reports, the feature is part of a major update expected in 2026.

The world’s most popular messaging platform, WhatsApp, has begun testing a long-anticipated feature that allows users to communicate using usernames instead of phone numbers.

According to reports, the feature is part of a major update expected in 2026 and is currently being tested among a limited number of users on both Android and iOS beta versions.

The new functionality will enable users to connect without sharing their phone numbers, significantly improving privacy and reducing the need for direct personal contact information.

In addition, WhatsApp is introducing a four-digit security code (key) to further strengthen account protection and prevent unauthorized access.

Reports also suggest that users may be able to integrate usernames from other social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, making identity management and connectivity more seamless across services.

The feature is expected to be rolled out globally in future updates after the testing phase is completed.
