Weather Alert! Heavy Monsoon Rains Break Records Across Pakistan

Punjab has seen 73% more rain than normal this monsoon season, says the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

Experts believe this increase in rain shows the effects of climate change and a higher risk of natural disasters.

PDMA Punjab’s Director General, Irfan Ali Kathiya, shared on Tuesday that 165 people have died in Punjab so far because of the heavy rains. Most deaths happened due to lightning, electric shocks, or drowning.

He also said that 4 to 5 more rounds of rain are expected soon, and the government is ready with emergency plans. Families of the people who died will be helped according to the government’s policy.

Because of the heavy rain, cities like Lahore are at greater risk of flooding. Local officials have been told to stay alert.

The public is advised to be careful, especially by avoiding flood-prone and low-lying areas during the rain.
