Uzma Tahir under criticism, inappropriate on-duty conduct

Karachi: Uzma Tahir, a former Pakistani showbiz actress and anchorperson known for her outspoken and straightforward style, has come under severe criticism for allegedly consoling a man in an “inappropriate manner” while on duty.

Tahir is widely recognized for raising her voice for the oppressed and has had a long career as a journalist and anchorperson with various private channels. She gained prominence for her bold approach in bringing serious and sensitive cases to light through popular crime-based programs like “Parda Fash” and “Khufia.” This courageous stance has earned her many admirers. However, a recent viral video has put her in the midst of intense public scrutiny.

The viral video shows Uzma Tahir, while on assignment, attempting to console a man whose 16-year-old daughter was brutally tortured and murdered. However, viewers found Tahir’s demeanor unsettling and inappropriate, particularly given the sensitive nature of the case and the presence of local residents.

In the widely circulated clip, Uzma Tahir is seen standing unusually close to the grieving father, which many viewers found awkward and objectionable. She can be heard telling the father to “have faith in Allah and raise his voice for justice,” but her overall approach was perceived as highly improper.

Social media users strongly reacted to her repeated actions of holding the man’s hand, touching his face and shoulder, and generally engaging in what was deemed “inappropriate touching.” The comment section of the video quickly filled with condemnation.

One user remarked, “Why are you standing so close? The person is clearly uncomfortable. Another commented, “This is also a type of harassment. An angry user questioned, “Why are you holding his hand? Another sarcastically wrote, “The method of explaining is a bit too casual.” Yet another user advised, “Sister, you could have explained this from a little distance.”
