Officials of Utah police were left scratching their heads after its new artificial intelligence software mistakenly reported that one of its officers had transformed into a frog.
According to KTSU, the incident occurred earlier this month in Heber City, where authorities have been exploring AI tools designed to automatically draft reports from body camera footage.
Officer Rick Keel explained that the bizarre claim was not any kind of misconduct.
“The body cam software and the AI report writing software picked up on the movie that was playing in the background, which happened to be The Princess and the Frog,” he said. “That’s when we learned the importance of correcting these AI-generated reports.”
The department has recently begun testing two AI systems to cut down on paperwork, which often weighs heavily on officers.
The software is capable of generating reports in English and Spanish, and can even detect tone and sentiment during conversations.
