Two Chinese Companies contact Pakistan food authority to export “Donkey Meat”
Islamabad: Two Chinese companies have officially applied to export donkey meat from Pakistan to China, according to sources at the Ministry of National Food Security. Both firms have submitted applications for slaughterhouse setup and export licenses.
One of the companies, Heng Ying, has already signed a protocol agreement with Pakistani authorities to begin exports of donkey meat and bones. The company plans to process and export the meat exclusively through a designated facility in Gwadar, Balochistan.
However, the exports have yet to commence due to regulatory requirements set by Chinese authorities. Ministry officials clarified that the Chinese company has been informed that meat production will be restricted to the Gwadar facility only.
Sources say the Ministry is still conducting a thorough review of Heng Ying’s license application, and a second Chinese company has also recently applied for a license to export meat.
Officials added that once all regulations are fulfilled, donkey meat and bones could be exported to China, generating significant foreign exchange for Pakistan.
Meanwhile, concerns over illegal donkey meat operations were raised after it was discovered that a foreign national had been processing meat in Islamabad without a license. Authorities have taken notice and are investigating the matter.
If approved, this could mark the beginning of a new export sector for Pakistan, with Gwadar serving as the central hub for processing and shipping to China.
