The 25-year-old Italian citizen was detained for violating US visa regulations. He has since been released and has returned from the United States.
According to a statement from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Khaby Lame was taken into custody for overstaying his visa. He had arrived in the US on April 30 and remained beyond his permitted stay. This action led to his temporary detention under immigration laws.
Lame known for his silent humorous videos and his role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, is the most followed TikToker globally with over 162 million followers. His unique style, which involves mocking complex online tutorials without speaking, has garnered him immense international fame. He gained Italian citizenship in 2022 after moving there from Senegal as an infant.
News of his detention sparked widespread discussion, particularly after a claim by political activist Bo Loudon that he had initiated the complaint. While initially met with doubt, ICE later confirmed Lame’s temporary detention, highlighting the ongoing strict enforcement of US immigration policies.
