‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ finale draws mixed fan reactions after Belly and Conrad’s ending
The series finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty has divided fans, with many taking to social media to express disappointment over how Belly and Conrad’s story concluded.
The episode, set largely in Paris, featured Conrad arriving unexpectedly at Belly’s apartment before she gave him a tour of the city and an invitation to her pre-birthday party. The night, and ultimately the series, ends with the pair reconciling as lovers.
Despite romantic gestures and references to their past, viewers were quick to point out what was missing. One fan wrote, “We didn’t get Belly and Conrad’s wedding. We didn’t get their first dance to ‘Stay’. We didn’t get their final scene from the book on the beach. We never got the Valentine’s Day flashback.” Another added, “A finale and Belly had no scenes with anybody else.”
Some viewers criticised the amount of screentime given to the side characters, with one post reading, “Skipping all of the scenes that don’t include Belly and Conrad”.
Not all responses were negative, with some noting character growth elsewhere. “Junior Mint no longer a child of divorce, love that for him,” one viewer shared, while others appreciated the reconciliations at Cousins Beach.
Still, frustration lingered among many who felt the adaptation did not deliver the emotional beats of Jenny Han’s books. As one fan put it, “That ending felt incomplete and not good”
