Thailand and Cambodia agree to unconditional ceasefire

KUALA LUMPUR: Thailand and Cambodia have reached an agreement on an unconditional ceasefire during high-level negotiations held in the Malaysian capital.

According to reports, the talks were attended by Thailand’s acting Prime Minister, Cambodia’s Prime Minister, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Envoys from the United States and China were also present during the discussions.

The agreement marks a significant step toward easing tensions between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.

Later, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed on an unconditional ceasefire.

The Malaysian Prime Minister said that the US President appealed to the two leaders to find a peaceful solution and the two sides agreed to restore direct contacts.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister said that the talks were good, hopefully the fight would be stopped immediately.

So far 35 people have been killed and more than three million displaced in border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.
