Six train accidents in 15 Days, Expose Pakistan Railways’ failures

Pakistan Railways is once again under fire after at least six train accidents occurred in just 15 days, injuring dozens of passengers and raising serious safety concerns.

The accidents have exposed the poor condition of the railway system and the alleged negligence of officials. On August 1, the Islamabad Express derailed near Kala Shah Kaku, injuring over 30 passengers. The next day, on August 2, a bogie of the Pak Business Express came off the track in the washing line.

On August 8, a freight train derailed at Faisalabad Dry Port, followed by the derailment of the Mianwali Express near Chak Jhumra on August 9. The Awam Express met with an accident near Rahim Yar Khan on August 10, and on August 11, two bogies of Musa Pak Express came off the track in Raiwind, injuring three passengers.

These back-to-back incidents have created fear among passengers and cast doubt on Pakistan Railways’ performance. Sources say the accidents are increasing due to deteriorating tracks and a lack of proper maintenance.

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi took notice of the Islamabad Express accident and ordered an inquiry report within seven days. However, no clear action has been taken against those responsible so far. Officials admit that outdated infrastructure, delayed repairs, and insufficient staff training are making train travel increasingly dangerous across the country.
