Senior lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam was shot dead in Karachi’s Defence area on Friday, police said.
The lawyer’s son, Daniyal, was also injured in the attack and was shifted to a hospital along with his father, who succumbed to his injuries, police confirmed.
The incident took place at a mosque in DHA Phase VI where Islam had gone to attend the funeral prayers of trader Muzzammil Paracha.
Unidentified gunmen opened fire during the funeral, critically injuring both father and son, said police, adding that further probe is underway.
Taking notice of the murder, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar directed SSP South to submit a detailed report on the initial police action taken following the incident.
He further instructed police teams to be mobilized for the immediate arrest of the suspects involved in the shooting and sought minute to minute updates.
