A security forces’ camp in Boya area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district came under attack on Friday, police said.

According to police, initial information suggested the attacker either used an explosives-laden vehicle or a suicide jacket to carry out the attack.

The powerful blast was heard as far as Miranshah city, located nearly 25 kilometres away, local sources reported.

Soon after the explosion, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a clearance operation.

A heavy contingent of police and security personnel reached the site, while special teams of the bomb disposal squad were dispatched to examine the scene.

Rescue 1122 and medical teams were also engaged in relief and rescue operations. Authorities said evidence was being collected from the site as investigations were underway

Following the attack, security across the district was placed on high alert, and traffic on a key highway was temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure.
