HUB: The seawater near Gadani Jetty has turned pink, causing concern among local residents, fishermen, and tourists over the unusual phenomenon.
According to a statement issued by the Balochistan Environmental Protection Department, the change in the water’s color is due to pollution. The department’s report confirms that the pink coloration has also led to a foul odor spreading in the area.
Deputy Director of the Environmental Department, Imran Kakar, stated that the water had been stagnant for a considerable period, leading to a biological transformation.
The affected area, part of the wider Arabian Sea which in this region can reach depths of over 100 meters, has been identified as a contamination zone.
The official report specifies that the pink coloration is caused by a change in microscopic organisms.
As a result, authorities have issued a public safety advisory, instructing people to stay away from the contaminated water until the situation is resolved.
