MOSCOW: Russia has stated that the current situation in the Middle East presents an opportunity to resolve the ongoing Gulf crisis through diplomacy and dialogue, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Moscow noted that talks between the United States and Iran began in Islamabad on April 10, adding that Pakistan is playing a mediatory role in facilitating the negotiations.
Russia said that many countries are closely watching the outcome of the US–Iran discussions and hope for their success, while also alleging that certain powers are attempting to undermine peace efforts in the region.
The Russian Foreign Ministry rejected claims blaming Iran for tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that maritime traffic in the area had remained normal until late February, and urged that facts should not be distorted.
Moscow stressed that the root causes of destructive conflicts in the region must be addressed and called for an immediate end to ongoing hostilities, including strikes in Lebanon.
It further emphasized that Middle East disputes should be resolved through diplomatic and political means, urging all participants in the Islamabad talks to act responsibly.
Reiterating its proposal for a Gulf security framework, Russia said that dialogue between Gulf states and Iran is the only viable path toward lasting peace, and confirmed its continued commitment to supporting a fair and sustainable resolution to regional conflicts.
