Karachi: Instagram is rolling out a highly-anticipated repost button, giving users the ability to share public posts and Reels directly to their feeds. This update eliminates the need for workarounds like screenshots and third-party apps, offering a seamless way to share content with proper attribution to the original creator.
The reshare feature allows content to appear in both a follower’s main feed and a new, dedicated “Reposts” tab on the user’s profile. This functionality brings the platform more in line with competitors like TikTok and is a response to long-standing user requests.
It also aims to give creators a wider reach, as their content can now be shared with audiences who don’t follow them directly.
Using the repost button is straightforward: simply tap the icon below a public photo or Reel, add a note if desired, and publish. The content is then posted to your feed and stored in your Reposts tab.
In addition to the repost feature, Instagram has also introduced two other significant updates. The Instagram Map is an opt-in feature in the DM section that lets users share their last active location with select friends. It also surfaces community content, such as Reels and Stories that are tagged nearby.
A new Friends Tab has also been added to the Reels section, which displays Reels that your friends have liked, commented on, or created. These features are designed to enhance social engagement and make content discovery more personal.
These changes reflect Instagram’s strategic effort to adapt to evolving social media trends and compete with other popular platforms, particularly TikTok. By making it easier to share content and discover what friends are engaging with, Instagram is working to blend algorithmic content with personal sharing, hoping to boost user engagement and retention.
While the updates have begun rolling out in the U.S., some Pakistani users are starting to see the repost button, though the other features are yet to be widely implemented.
