LAHORE: Punjab Government has decided to transform the Crime Control Department (CCD) into a premier investigation agency to further strengthen law enforcement in the province.
According to an official statement, the CCD will be upgraded with modern forensic technology, advanced investigative skills, machinery, and equipment, making it one of the most modern crime-control institutions in Pakistan.
The department will also be provided with state-of-the-art tools for tracking and monitoring criminals.
The statement said the scope of CCD will be expanded due to its success in controlling crime and gaining public confidence.
Authorities plan to develop the department along the lines of the world’s top five crime-control agencies, while a modern research center will also be established within the CCD.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also approved the construction of a modern headquarters for the CCD. Offices, police stations, and residential facilities for staff will be established in every division, district, and tehsil across Punjab.
The government is also planning to introduce new legislation to curb illegal weapons.
According to the statement, the CCD’s actions have already resulted in a significant reduction in murders and crimes against women, while robbery incidents have decreased by 77 percent.
The chief minister has additionally tasked the CCD with taking strict action against acid attacks on women, further strengthening the province’s efforts to combat violent crime.
