LAHORE: In a significant political development, the Punjab Assembly has successfully passed a no-confidence motion against four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairpersons of standing committees.
According to sources, the chairpersons removed through the motion include: Ansar Iqbal, Chairman of the Literacy Committee, Saima Kanwal, Chairperson of Special Education, Ahsan Ali, Chairman of the Colonies Committee and Rai Murtaza, Chairman of Management and Professional Development.
According to the report, the chairmen of the four standing committees belong to the PTI and notices have been issued to remove the chairman of the four standing committees.
Sources say that the election of the new chairman of the Standing Committees will now take place again.
Sources reveal that no-confidence motions have been submitted against two more chairpersons of standing committees in the Punjab Assembly, with expectations that similar action may be taken against the remaining seven opposition-led committees.
The recent wave of no-confidence moves comes after the successful removal of four PTI-affiliated committee heads earlier.
In a further political escalation, sources indicate that references against opposition members may be sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) before the next assembly session, signaling a deepening rift within the provincial legislature.
