PTA will formally seek government approval to conduct the auction before Ramazan.
Pakistan is moving closer to launching 5G services, with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) indicating that the long-awaited spectrum auction could happen before Ramazan.
The PTA has made an in-principle decision to hold the 5G spectrum auction ahead of Ramazan. The PTA chairman stated that the launch of 5G services in Pakistan is now within reach. In an interview with a private channel, he confirmed that preparations for the auction have been completed.
The chairman added that the PTA will formally seek government approval to conduct the auction before Ramazan and expressed confidence that the process could proceed quickly once approval is granted. This move is seen as an important step in improving Pakistan’s digital connectivity and telecom infrastructure.

According to the chairman, the Information Memorandum (IM), which will outline the detailed terms and conditions for telecom operators, will be issued within the next 10 to 15 days. After the IM is released, operators will have 45 days to prepare and submit their bids.
He explained that if the IM is issued by January 1, the 5G spectrum auction could take place on February 15, allowing it to happen well before Ramazan. This development is considered a major milestone in Pakistan’s progress toward next-generation mobile services.
The PTA chairman reiterated that the launch of 5G in Pakistan is not far off and emphasized that the authority is fully ready to move forward once all procedural and governmental approvals are completed. The introduction of 5G is expected to boost innovation, increase data speeds, and support emerging technologies across the country.
