Police search septic tank at Nancy Guthrie’s home as missing person inquiry continues

On Saturday evening, Savannah Guthrie issued another public appeal to her mother’s alleged kidnappers

Police searched a septic tank behind the Tucson, Arizona, home of Nancy Guthrie on Sunday as the investigation into the disappearance of the 84-year-old entered its eighth day.

Officers were seen opening a manhole cover in the backyard and using a long pole to probe inside, according to drone footage from the scene.

The search did not produce any findings, and authorities have not disclosed what investigators were specifically looking for. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that officers will remain at the property at all times for security purposes as the inquiry continues.

The investigation has intensified amid growing concern from Guthrie’s family. On Saturday evening, her daughter Savannah Guthrie issued another public appeal to her mother’s alleged kidnappers, offering to meet their demands. Tucson ABC affiliate KGUN9 reported that a ransom of $6 million in bitcoin had been requested, with a deadline of Monday, February 9.

“We received your message and we understand,” Savannah Guthrie said in a video message alongside her siblings Camron and Annie. “We beg you now to return our mother to us, so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 after dinner with her daughter Annie and son-in-law Tommaso Cioni, who dropped her off at her home. Authorities were also seen searching Annie and Cioni’s residence late on Saturday night.

In a statement, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said, “This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives and agents continue to conduct follow-up at multiple locations.” No suspects or persons of interest have been identified.
