PM Shehbaz congratulates Azerbaijan on historic peace deal with Armenia
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev to congratulate him on signing a historic peace agreement with Armenia, ending a three-decade-long conflict over the Karabakh region.
During the conversation, PM Shehbaz praised President Aliyev’s visionary leadership in bringing the dispute to a peaceful conclusion. He also acknowledged former US President Donald Trump’s role in making the agreement possible.
President Aliyev thanked Pakistan for its long-standing and consistent support on the Karabakh issue. PM Shehbaz assured him that the people of Pakistan stand firmly with their Azerbaijani brothers and sisters on this fundamental matter.
He expressed happiness that under bold and wise leadership, peace has finally been restored in the region. President Aliyev noted that peace will create new opportunities for development and stronger ties between Pakistan and Central Asia.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive state of bilateral relations. PM Shehbaz also renewed his invitation for President Aliyev to make an official visit to Pakistan.
The two leaders are also expected to meet on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.
