Indus Waters Treaty: Pakistan Responds to Indian Home Minister’s Statement

Pakistan has rejected the Indian Minister of Home Affairs remarks regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, calling them a blatant disregard for the sanctity of international agreements.

The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that the Indus Waters Treaty is not a political arrangement but an international agreement, and any unilateral violation of it goes against international law.

According to the spokesperson, the treaty allows no room for unilateral actions, and India’s announcement to suspend it is a clear breach of international legal norms.

He added that the Indian statement violates the treaty’s provisions and the fundamental principles of international relations, setting an irresponsible and dangerous precedent.

Such statements, the spokesperson said, undermine the credibility of international agreements and raise serious concerns about states that refuse to honor their legal commitments.

Using water as a tool for political purposes is an irresponsible approach and goes against the recognized principles of civilized nations, he emphasized.

Pakistan has called on India to immediately withdraw its unilateral and illegal stance and to fully and unconditionally implement the Indus Waters Treaty.

The spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to the treaty and said the country will take all necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
