Noman Ijaz’s independence day message for Pakistan’s youth

Lahore: Veteran Pakistani actor Noman Ijaz has delivered a powerful reflection on the state of the nation, particularly focusing on the disillusionment of Pakistan’s youth.

As the country approaches another Independence Day on August 14, Ijaz took to Instagram to share his heartfelt thoughts, contrasting the patriotic enthusiasm of the past with the despair many young Pakistanis feel today.

“The children who used to put up flags and lights on August 14th had dreams in their eyes for Pakistan,” he wrote. “A dream of a bright future, a self-reliant nation, and a strong homeland.”

In his emotional post, Ijaz reminisced about a time when August 14 was marked by excitement, hope, and national pride. However, he lamented that as those children grew into adults, their dreams were slowly replaced by disappointment, frustration, and a loss of faith in the system.

Highlighting issues such as corruption, injustice, poverty, and a lack of meritocracy, Ijaz criticized a system that, in his words, has failed to deliver on the promise of independence. He pointed out that employment is often dependent on connections, and that many qualified youth are left behind in a system that does not reward talent or hard work.

“Now that same generation, which was once an example of patriotism, is standing in lines for passports and visas to live a life in another country they once wanted in Pakistan,” he observed.

He concluded with a stark remark: “This migration is not just a move, it’s the funeral of dreams a dream that we ourselves buried with our own hands.”
