No nuclear negotiations while Israeli strikes continue, says Iran

GENEVA: Iran has declared that it will not engage in nuclear negotiations as long as Israeli attacks continue, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The statement came after high-level discussions held in Geneva, Switzerland, where the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom met with their Iranian counterpart.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Abbas Araghchi said the talks with European leaders were “serious and dignified,” but reiterated Iran’s firm stance that dialogue on nuclear matters cannot proceed amid ongoing Israeli aggression.

Araghchi  said he supports the continuation of talks with the European Foreign Ministers, ready to meet with European leaders in the future.

He said Iran is ready to consider diplomacy once again but made it clear that Iran’s defence capabilities cannot be discussed.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Israel must stop targeting civilian populations in Iran. He added that as long as Israeli aggression continues, meaningful dialogue on nuclear negotiations will not be possible.

Talking to the media, the British Foreign Minister called on Iran to continue its talks with the United States.

The French Foreign Minister said that “We believe this diplomatic move should pave the way for dialogue”.

It should be remembered that Iran had refused to participate in the sixth round of talks on nuclear talks with the United States on support for Israeli attacks. Talks on nuclear talks were scheduled in Muscat last Sunday.

After that, the European Foreign Ministers decided to hold talks with Iran.
