No Galaxy S26 series for next year? Here’s what we know

Samsung may be planning a major revamp of its flagship Galaxy S-series lineup in 2026, according to a recent leak tied to an internal One UI 8 build. If the rumors are true, the upcoming Galaxy S26 series will mark a big departure from the familiar naming convention.

Instead of the usual Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, Samsung is reportedly preparing to launch:

  • Galaxy S26 Pro
  • Galaxy S26 Edge
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra

This change would eliminate both the standard “vanilla” and the models. The Galaxy S26 Pro is expected to replace the base model, while the Edge version would take over the Plus variant’s role. The shift to a “Pro” label suggests upgraded features and specs, though exact hardware details are still under wraps. With that in mind, a price increase for the base model also seems likely—“Pro” usually means premium, after all.

Interestingly, Apple is said to be making a similar move with its iPhone 17 lineup, expected in September. Rumors point to a new iPhone 17 Air, a thinner device that may rival the Galaxy S26 Edge in design and appeal.

With the Galaxy S26 series launch still several months away, these leaks should be taken with a grain of salt. However, as we get closer to 2026, more concrete details are expected to emerge, confirming whether Samsung is truly ready to retire its long-standing S-series format and embrace a fresh, premium-focused approach.
