KARACHI: The upgradation work of the KMC Sports Complex’s Swimming Pool is yet to kick-off, while the 35th National Games are scheduled to take place in Karachi in December this year.

There were concerns about where the swimming competitions will take place in Karachi given the fact the city lacks a state-of-the-art swimming facility. But when the National Games got postponed for six months, the Sindh government decided to upgrade the swimming pool at Kashmir Road Sports Complex.

Sources connected to the development said that the development plan for the KMC swimming pool has been approved, but the practical work at the site is yet to start. Sources also spoke about the other technical ground work that needs to be completed in order to ensure the swimming competitions take place professionally. ”Advanced level machinery will be required. A state-of-the-art timing system is vital to ensure that swim times are measured accurately,” a source said.

”These systems typically involve touchpads placed at each lane’s end wall, which are triggered by the swimmers upon completion of their race. The timing system is connected to electronic display boards that provide immediate feedback on race times, which is vital for both competitors and spectators,” the source said. It is worth mentioning that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has given directions for upgradation of the existing swimming pool for the National Games.
