New Number Plate Policy for Electric Vehicles Introduced in Punjab
To encourage eco-friendly transportation, the Punjab government has introduced special green number plates for electric vehicles (EVs). These plates will replace the regular ones, and all EV owners must now use the green plates on their vehicles.
Additional DG Ahmad Saeed said the purpose of the green plates is to clearly separate electric vehicles from fuel-based ones and support the government’s efforts to promote environmentally friendly options.
So far, more than 16,000 electric vehicles have been registered in Punjab. This includes about 14,500 electric motorcycles, 1,461 electric cars, 36 electric rickshaws, and 31 electric buses.
Ahmad Saeed also mentioned that the government has been giving big financial benefits to EV owners. Right now, there is a 95% discount on registration and token tax, and this tax relief will continue in the next financial year to further promote the use of electric vehicles.
