Have you heard the news that there’s a new My Chemical Romance song?
Over the weekend, the rock band kicked off their two day residency at Los Angeles’s Dodger Stadium as part of their ongoing Long Live the Black Parade Tour. On day one, i.e., Saturday, July 26, Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Frank Iero, and Mikey Way performed an unreleased song, War Beneath the Rain, for the first time ever.
“I don’t remember how long ago it was, but before the band broke up, we had a studio in North Hollywood and we were making a record that never came out,” lead vocalist Gerard Way told the crowd. “And this was one of the songs we really loved from it.”
The band dedicated the song to their late friend and producer, Doug McKean, who passed away in 2022.
“His family’s here tonight, I want this to go out to them,” said Gerard.
The tour is an homage to MCR’s most successful album, 2006’s The Black Parade. Ever since reuniting in 2020 after a 7-year hiatus, MCR has performed the album live on multiple occasions.
Notably missing from the tour was the band’s former drummer, Bob Bryar, who passed away in late 2024. He left the band in 2010 after a seven-year run with them and had worked on the Black Parade album.
