
Iconic Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle has reportedly passed away at the age of 92 in a Mumbai hospital, according to family sources on Sunday, marking the end of one of the most extraordinary musical eras in South Asian history.
The legendary vocalist was earlier admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after suffering serious health complications, including breathing difficulties and a cardiac emergency. Despite intensive medical care and close monitoring in the ICU, she could not recover.
Family sources confirmed the news of her passing, expressing deep grief over the loss of a global music icon whose voice shaped generations of cinema and music lovers.
Asha Bhosle’s health condition had been critical since her admission on April 11, when she was rushed to the hospital following a sudden cardiac episode. Medical teams had been providing continuous treatment, but her condition remained unstable.
Widely regarded as one of the most versatile and influential voices in music history, she built a remarkable career spanning over eight decades. Beginning her journey in the 1940s, she recorded thousands of songs in multiple languages and became a defining voice of Indian cinema.
Her contribution to music earned her some of India’s highest civilian honours, including the Padma Vibhushan and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She was also recognised by Guinness World Records as one of the most recorded artists in history.
