More monsoon rains predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Pakistan

More monsoon rains are predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other parts of Pakistan on Wednesday evening/night and Thursday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says a seasonal low pressure is present over northeast Balochistan, while strong monsoon winds are reaching the upper areas of the country. A new westerly weather system is also affecting the upper regions.

Because of these weather conditions, more scattered rains are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, northeast Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday evening/night and Friday. Heavy showers are expected in some areas of Kashmir, northeast Punjab, the Pothohar region, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

These heavy rains may lead to flash floods in local streams and nullahs of Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Tank, Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir. Urban flooding may also happen in cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, and Peshawar.

There is also a risk of landslides and mudslides which could block roads in the vulnerable parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galiyat. Strong winds, lightning, and rain may damage weak buildings, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

Islamabad’s temperature is likely to stay between 34 to 36 degrees Celsius on Thursday and between 33 to 35 degrees on Friday. In Rawalpindi, the temperature is expected to stay between 33 to 35 degrees on Thursday and 32 to 34 degrees on Friday.

Over the last 24 hours, rains with some heavy showers were reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other parts of the country.
