Peshawar: Mehwish Ali, the eldest of the “Ali Sisters” from Peshawar has been handed a six-month ban by the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) is also expected to take disciplinary action against her.
The ban stems from an incident where Mehwish Ali representing Pakistan in international competitions, made an inappropriate gesture towards an opponent after a defeat.
This behavior occurred during the 32nd Asian Junior Squash Championship in South Korea. In the Round of 16 of the Girls’ Under-17 event, following her loss to Hong Kong’s Seed 5, Chan Wai Li, Mehwish Ali displayed unacceptable conduct, making an offensive gesture and refusing to shake hands with her opponent.
Repeated attempts to contact Mehwish Ali’s father and coach, Arif Ali, for his comments on the matter, including multiple calls and messages, have gone unanswered.
Meanwhile, sources indicate that the Pakistan Squash Federation has also signaled its intent to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Mehwish Ali.
