Massive fire breaks out at Landhi export processing zone factory

Karachi: A massive fire broke out early Thursday morning at a factory located in the Landhi Export Processing Zone, quickly spreading out of control.

Due to the intensity of the blaze, a nearby factory building was also partially affected.

According to Rescue 1122, 16 fire tenders and 2 water bowsers are on site, and the firefighting operation is currently ongoing. Fire brigade officials have classified the fire as a third-degree blaze, indicating a severe and high-intensity fire.

Rescue authorities stated that some roofs of the affected five-story building have collapsed. However, no casualties have been confirmed so far.

A spokesperson for the Water Board said that emergency measures have been implemented at the Landhi Sherpao Hydrant to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the fire brigade. Water is being provided on an urgent basis to support the firefighting efforts.

Rescue officials reported that over 100 women were inside the factory when the fire broke out, all of whom have been safely rescued. Staff from neighboring factories—many of them women—have also been evacuated as a precaution.”
