Major Pakistan-China space mission: Satellite launch date confirmed

Pakistan and China are all set to take another major step in their growing space collaboration. On July 31, the two countries will launch a new remote sensing satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China. The mission marks a key milestone in bilateral cooperation and Pakistan’s expanding presence in space technology.

According to a spokesperson from Suparco (Pakistan’s national space agency), the satellite will provide powerful tools for monitoring crops, collecting accurate agricultural data, and improving urban planning. It’s also expected to enhance early warning systems for natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and landslides—a crucial need in a climate-vulnerable region like South Asia.

Beyond that, the satellite will help track glacier melting, observe deforestation, and support national projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It adds to Pakistan’s growing satellite fleet, which includes PRSS-1 and the locally developed EO-1, launched earlier this year in January.

Officials say the launch aligns with Suparco’s Vision 2047 and the national space policy aimed at leveraging technology for sustainable development. With each new mission, Pakistan is not only enhancing its space capabilities but also showing growing self-reliance and global ambition in the field of science and innovation.

This latest satellite launch is more than just a technological achievement it’s a step toward a smarter, safer, and more resilient Pakistan.
