Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake strikes Musa Khel, Balochistan

Balochistan jolts by 5.5 magnitude

Balochistan: An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale shook Musa Khel and surrounding areas today, causing in significant damage to residents.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the tremor occurred at a depth of 28 kilometers with its epicenter approximately 56 kilometers northeast of Musa Khel. The quake was strongly felt across the region, causing panic among residents.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reports that the earthquake led to the complete destruction of two houses and partial damage to three others in Musa Khel. Tragically, the collapsing structures injured three individuals, who have been provided medical assistance.

Pakistan’s seismic activity is primarily driven by its location along the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

Balochistan’s rugged and mountainous terrain often complicates emergency response efforts, posing additional challenges for rescue and relief operations.
