
Libyan Commander Chief meets PM Shehbaz and Asim Munir to boost defence ties
Islamabad – Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Abu Qasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, met Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir during his official visit to Pakistan.
High-Level Meeting at the Prime Minister’s House:
Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, accompanied by a delegation, held an important meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad.
Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Libya across multiple sectors, including defence, diplomacy, and mutual collaboration.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly welcomed the Libyan military delegation to Pakistan and emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral ties.
Expression of Gratitude by Libyan Commander-in-Chief:
Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar expressed deep appreciation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Government of Pakistan for the warm welcome and generous hospitality.
He also expressed a keen desire to further strengthen the defence ties between Libya and Pakistan.
Attendance of Key Ministers and Officials:
The high-level meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Hayat Hiraj, Prime Minister’s Advisor Dr. Tauqeer Shah, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and other senior government officials.
Meeting with the Field Marshal:
Earlier, the Libyan Commander-in-Chief also met with the Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ).
Exchange on Regional Security and Defence Cooperation:
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two military leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security, ongoing security challenges, and defence cooperation.
Both sides agreed on enhancing defence industrial collaboration and exchanging technical expertise.
Visit to Yadgar-e-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Monument):
The ISPR further reported that upon arrival at GHQ, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar visited Yadgar-e-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Monument) and paid tribute to the martyred personnel of Pakistan’s Armed Forces.
A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army presented a guard of honour to the visiting dignitary.
