Laura Benanti’s different way of handling fake blood on ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ comes to light

Laura Benanti dealt with fake blood in a different way on the set of Mayor of Kingstown.
For those unaware, the 46-year-old American actress and singer appeared in the fourth season of the American crime thriller television series Mayor of Kingstown to play the role of correctional officer Cindy Stephens.
In a talk with PEOPLE magazine, Hugh Dillon, the show’s co-creator, shared that newcomer Benanti cannot smell anything that looks like blood and she handled it in a unique way on the set while shooting wild scenes.
Calling to mind, the 62-year-old Canadian singer and actor revealed, “Laura doesn’t like blood, and so… sometimes we’ve got to get alcohol swabs and put them under her nose.”
He went on to note that despite using fake blood on the set, The Gilded Age star “still [had] a reaction to it.”
Benanti also opened up to the same outlet about her new role and confessed that she had to “put all vanity aside” for her portrayal of Cindy in Mayor of Kingstown.
She explained, “I wasn’t allowed to wear any makeup. My hair is like always slicked back. There’s no lighting, it’s just overhead fluorescent lighting, sometimes underneath fluorescent lighting.”
“In a way that was freeing because I think as an actor we’re probably always a little self-conscious about what we look like. And this was like, ‘I know I look like a hag and I’m just gonna keep going,’” Benanti quipped.
