Kirsten Dunst joins ‘The Housemaid’ sequel alongside Sydney Sweeney

‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ continues the story based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel

Kirsten Dunst has joined the cast of The Housemaid’s Secret, the upcoming sequel to the commercially successful 2025 film The Housemaid, starring alongside Sydney Sweeney.

The follow-up continues the story based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, with Sweeney reprising her role as Millie, a young woman with a troubled past who becomes entangled in the hidden lives of wealthy households. The first film generated nearly $400 million at the box office, establishing the franchise as a notable entry in the psychological thriller genre.

In the sequel, Millie takes on a new position “keeping house for a woman she’s never allowed to see — only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own.” The narrative shifts focus to a different family, with new characters introduced as part of the evolving storyline.

“It is a privilege to bring ‘The Housemaid’s’ next chapter to the screen with Kirsten Dunst,” said Lionsgate motion picture group president Erin Westerman. “She is an icon. Her career reflects extraordinary range and fearlessness. Opposite the ever-magnetic Sydney Sweeney, she will be an electrifying force in a world where nothing is ever quite as it seems.”

Paul Feig will return to direct the sequel, working again with screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine. Michele Morrone is also set to reprise his role as Enzo, while Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar will not return as the story centres on a new household.

Production will involve multiple returning producers, including Todd Lieberman, Paul Feig and Laura Fischer, with Sweeney also contributing through her production company.

Dunst continues to expand her recent film work, with upcoming roles in A Minecraft Movie 2 and Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down.
