Karachi welcomes surprise showers after long dry spell

Several areas witness light to heavy rain, with hail reported in parts of the city.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Karachi witnessed an unexpected spell of rain and even hail in parts of the city on Monday, transforming the usually dry metropolis into a refreshing, rain-washed landscape.

For a city where rainfall is often scarce, the sudden showers brought excitement and relief to residents. Light to moderate rain swept through Orangi Town, SITE Area, Baldia Town, and University Road, while heavier spells accompanied by thunder rolled across North Karachi, North Nazimabad, and Nazimabad.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal and its surrounding areas experienced a brief but intense downpour, while Gulistan-e-Johar and Safoora saw steady rainfall with flashes of lightning.

In a rare twist, hail was reported in parts of Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, and Gulistan-e-Johar  a sight that left many residents pleasantly surprised.

Dark clouds blanketed the skyline, cool breezes swept through the streets, and the long-awaited rain turned the city’s mood vibrant and cheerful. Social media quickly filled with videos and photos as citizens stepped out to enjoy the unusual weather.

The PMD has forecast that intermittent showers may continue until the evening, keeping Karachi’s weather cool and refreshing for the time being.

For many residents, the rare rainfall was more than just a weather update — it was a welcome celebration in a city that doesn’t often get to enjoy the magic of rain.
