Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and pop star Katy Perry are sparking headlines as their relationship continues to grow, with those close to them saying the bond is strong.
One source told Page Six that Trudeau has fallen hard for Perry, sharing that “He is crazy about her and thinks she is the perfect woman.”
The insider added that the two feel in sync on “politics, kids and French food,” calling their connection “simpatico.”
Their most recent public outing came in Paris, where they celebrated Perry’s 41st birthday at the iconic Crazy Horse cabaret.
“They both have a sparkle for each other,” the source said, describing the pair’s chemistry.
Rumours first began in July after Trudeau and Perry were spotted dining together at Le Violon in Montreal.
Days later, Trudeau was seen watching her perform during the “Lifetimes” tour at Montreal’s Bell Centre. A source told PEOPLE in August that they shared an “instant connection.”
Their relationship only seemed to heat up further. Earlier this month, the former PM and the Dark Horse singer were photographed embracing on her yacht near Santa Barbara, Calif.
Trudeau stepped down from his role in January after nearly 10 years in office. He and Sophie Grégoire separated in 2023 after 18 years of marriage.
One source previously said, “He is sowing his oats all over again,” adding, “He’s free from the ties of office and his marriage.”
The idea of Trudeau dating another high-profile figure has not surprised those familiar with him.
“I don’t think anyone that knows him is surprised that Justin would date someone famous,” a source said, noting that the tendency “echoes his father.”
Pierre Trudeau, Canada’s former prime minister who died in 2000, famously dated stars including Barbra Streisand and Kim Cattrall.
Canadian columnist Shinan Govani, who has followed the Trudeau family for years, explained that Justin was unlikely to date outside public circles.
“Nobody who knows Justin, or who has followed him for years, ever thought he would just date a ‘civilian’ after being PM,” she shared.
Govani added, “He is inextricably wedded to the spotlight … and is used to mixing with a creamy set,” noting he no longer seems affected by public criticism.
Perry recently ended her decade-long relationship with fiancé Orlando Bloom. The pair, who share 5-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, announced their breakup in a joint statement this summer.
Trudeau and his ex, Sophie, share three children: Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.
