John Cusack has reflected on working with sister Joan Cusack in the 1989 romantic comedy Say Anything.

During the screening of the film at New York City’s Kings Theatre, the actor shared memories. He described the experience as “pretty easy gig.”

Noting that it’s easy to work with your sister, John said, “What happens is she’ll come in and then I’m in the scene with her. She runs me over like a Mack Truck and they say print it, and then it’s everyone’s favorite thing in the movie.”

“I just get flat like Wile E. Coyote and everyone thinks I’m a genius,” he added.

John said, “Joanie was actually more optimistic than I was. She would always tell me to get in a good mood, but I think it was written that his sister went through a tough breakup and all that.”

Say Anything remains the most iconic collaboration between the Cusack siblings, though they were once rumoured to be in contestation for the roles in The Breakfast Club. However, the project didn’t come together.

Yet, John Cusack and Joan Cusack build celebrated careers in Hollywood separately.
