James Cameron shares big update on Avatar 4 & 5

James Cameron finally opened up about the future of his globally successful Avatar film series.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the 71-year-old filmmaker confirmed that Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 are in development.
The director further told the outlet that whenever he decides to discontinue the film series, he will announce it.
“I don’t know if the saga goes beyond this point. I hope it does. But, you know, we prove that business case every time we go out,” said the Titanic director.
“If we don’t get to make 4 and 5, for whatever reason, I’ll hold a press conference and I’ll tell you what we were gonna do,” added James.
Previously, reports suggested that James might leave the franchise if the third installment fails to impress audiences in theaters.
For those unversed, the third sequel of the series, Avatar: Fire and Ash, was released in cinemas on December 19, 2025. The film is now nearly halfway to the $1 billion mark.
Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, and Kate Winslet play lead roles in the film.
