Jacob Tierney shares new update as ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 moves into development

He confirmed he is currently writing the next instalment and hinted at a different narrative direction
Jacob Tierney has revealed new details about the upcoming second season of Heated Rivalry, indicating a shift in focus as the story moves beyond its initial premise.
The series creator confirmed he is currently writing the next instalment and suggested that viewers can expect a different narrative direction compared to the first season. While fans of the original source material may already be familiar with the storyline, Tierney emphasised that the television adaptation will explore new dimensions of the characters’ lives.
“Season two will be different because they are now in a relationship,” he told Sky TV. “And so I think what will be interesting is kind of navigating the public versus the private of that relationship and navigating what happens after? Like, you’re an adult. You’re two adults in a relationship that is not an easy navigation. And so what does that look like?”
He added that the upcoming season will aim to expand on emotional and interpersonal elements, while maintaining the tone that resonated with audiences. “I’m very excited to do it. The boys are excited, I’m excited. I think it’s going to be really fun to see what else we can unearth that feels real, sexy, funny and truthful,” he said.
Tierney also noted that his creative approach will remain grounded in the original work by Rachel Reid. “I’m just going to do what I did in the first place and trust myself, and trust the source material, and trust in Rachel and her creativity, and trust in my instincts towards channeling it, because it worked the first time.”
The creator acknowledged external feedback but stressed his intention to stay focused. “I’m just going to try to shut out the noise, and, while I appreciate the many suggestions I get, from many people, I’m just like… I’m just kind of back to work.”
Sky TV has confirmed it will broadcast the second season in the United Kingdom.
