Iranian President receives guard of honour at PM House ahead of bilateral talks

Islamabad: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Islamabad on a two-day official visit to Pakistan, where a busy day of engagements is expected today.

President Pezeshkian visited the Prime Minister House, where he was warmly received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

At the Prime Minister House, a guard of honour was presented to the Iranian President, and the national anthems of both countries were played. A smartly turned-out contingent saluted the visiting President. Later, President Pezeshkian also planted a commemorative tree at the Prime Minister House.

According to sources, during the meeting between the Prime Minister and the Iranian President, discussions will focus on bilateral cooperation, regional connectivity, trade partnership, and opportunities in the energy sector. Several agreements and memorandums of understanding are also expected to be signed during the visit.

Earlier, the Iranian President began his visit by paying respects at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal and held an informal meeting with PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif.

Today, the Iranian President is also scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. A state dinner in honour of the Iranian President is also expected to be hosted by the President of Pakistan.

According to the sources, this visit holds great significance in strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations, enhancing border cooperation, and exploring new avenues in the energy and trade sectors.
